Description/Profile/About

Joel Pirchesky was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Pirchesky's greatest spirit has been his entrepreneurial one, and in 2006, he founded the internet business, One World Blue, LLC, with the establishment of the first online retail site. The long term and overall goal for One World Blue has been to create a social media platform that will enable all people and institutions the ability to raise funds for themselves, share their innovative ideas and worthy causes to the world, and mobilize others to stand and unite around them. As The One World Blue Good Network, the Social Network for Social Change, it is also a platform to spotlight the good individuals have done to transform the world, celebrate and appreciate cultural diversity, showcase the beauty of the world and bring attention to endangered species and habitats, and to act as a catalyst for conflict resolution thru the Overture to Peace module. First in 2008, the One World Blue Web Portal Program was created and it allowed any sole-proprietor or non-profit organization the ability to generate income through the Affiliate Marketing Program with the One World Blue Store. In 2010, the plan was begun to put into place the revolutionary main concepts of this social media platform which was given the name Blupela.com, The One World Blue Good Network. After over three years of research, development and investment into this transformative network, Blupela.com offers a revolutionary social networking experience. Unlike traditional Crowdfunding and social networking platforms, it provides a dynamic and comprehensive service by utilizing innovative tools to connect people and ideas with the goal of improving the world one good deed at a time.

As the progression of The One World Blue Network has evolved, in December 2014 Mr. Pirchesky completed his Master’s program at the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh. He earned his Master’s in Public Policy and Management, with a focus in International Development, and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Mr. Pirchesky’s commitment to establishing a worldwide platform of improving the world one good deed at a time fits in line with the goals of International Development. He will also work in the area of Global conservation, cultural diversity awareness and training, and conflict resolution with the tools he and his team are designing for The One World Blue Network.

Humla Education Fund
The Nepalese government has established several basic primary and secondary schools in the Humla valley. However, due to the remoteness of this region and the low standards of living, it is difficult to retain the needed teachers. The schools also lack teachers who can teach the native language and culture as well as computer literacy. In addition, many children in the Humla valley are not able to attend school because of widespread poverty.

The Philospohy Alignment of One World Blue: This Message Speaks One World Blue

Naphtali JP Ziff, Founder and CEO
One World Blue, LLC
In addition to the DeShannon hit recording and the numerous cover versions, "What the World Needs Now is Love" served as the basis for a distinctive 1971 remix.
Disc jockey Tom Clay was working at radio station KGBS in Los Angeles, California, when he created the single "What the World Needs Now is Love/Abraham, Martin and John", a social commentary that became a surprise hit record that summer.[5]
The song begins with a man asking a young boy to define such words as bigotry, segregation, and hatred (to which the boy says he doesn't know); he says that prejudice is "when someone's sick". Following that is a soundbite of a drill sergeant leading a platoon into training, along with gunfire sound effects, after which are snippets of the two songs – both as recorded by The Blackberries, a session recording group.[6] Interspersed are excerpts of speeches by John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, the eulogy after Robert's assassination by Ted Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr., and soundbites of news coverage of each one's assassination. The ending of the song is a reprise of the introduction.
"What the World Needs Now is Love/Abraham, Martin and John" rose to No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in August 1971, and was Clay's only Top 40 hit

"Peace in the World"
Music and Vocals by Michelle Kaye with surround vocals by Divincemoore - lyrics by Joel Pirchesky, founder of One World Blue Media
I have a dream that the world would be better and a safe place to live.
Children should not be afraid to be without their parents. They should not be worried about being kidnapped. People should realize that they should not hurt anyone and try to understand what they are doing.
I think it is very meaningless to have war. It is senseless to fight and kill one another. God did not put people on Earth to fight, argue, or hurt each other.
Poverty is very harmful and cruel to people. It can sometimes kill a person. It would be nice if poor people did not have to go to bed hungry.
Robbery scares me a whole lot, and I am sure it scares alot of other people too. People are sometimes shot and killed because they protect their belongings. Probably if people had the things they needed, there would be no more robberies.
It is a shame people are so terrified about highjacks on a plane that they don't even go on them. I hope in the future people will be able to go on a plane without worrying about a highjack.
If people try and work together they can make this world a better one. I am willing to try, are you?

HERE IS THE STORY
A CANCER patient in desperate need of surgery could die behind bars after being sentenced to prison for shoplifting groceries.
Ashley Menser will spend at least 10 months in prison after she was caught stealing $109 worth of groceries from a Weis Markets grocery store, a sentence that many are slamming as overly harsh.
Ashley Menser, who has advanced ovarian cancer, will spend 10 months in prison for shoplifting groceries.
The 36-year-old also has cervical cancer and her parents say without treatment she'll die within a month
The 36-year-old appeared in court on January 22 hoping that Judge Samuel A. Klein would delay her sentencing since she's being treated for both ovarian and cervical cancer.
Instead, he handed Menser a prison sentence of up to seven years for the 2018 theft, creating a life or death scenario for the sick shoplifter.
She now sits in her cell unable to get treatment with just one month left to live, according to her family, who's pleading with the court to.
"I sat there and sat there and was like, 'No, this can't happen'," Steve Via, Menser's father, told the PA Post. "She must have this operation or she's going to die."
Stephanie Bashore, Menser's mother, said a doctor told her that without treatment, her daughter would most likely die within a month.
Menser stole the goods from this Weis Markets store in Pennsylvania
Judge Samuel A. Klein based his decision on her criminal history, not her illness, her lawyer says
"She has no choice, it's life or death. The doctors sat there and told us this," said Bashore.
Menser's sentencing has sparked outrage in the community in Pennsylvania - now, state Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman is calling for her release and has offered to foot the $109.63 bill for the stolen goods.
"If the underlying details of this are accurate, this cannot be allowed to continue. I'll personally pay the $109 back," he tweeted Friday, followed by another tweet with a photo of a check he wrote to Weis Markets.
"Calling on Judge Kline to err on the side of mercy."

Group Meditation Literally Changes The World

Naphtali Ziff JP
Thank you to our Friends at

for sharing this story
Science Has Proven That Group Meditation Literally Changes The World
Not a lot is truly understood about quantum physics, but one thing science is at least a little bit sure of is that mass meditation has quantum results on both the meditator and the world.
In 1978, researchers discovered what they call the Maharishi Effect. They discovered it when a group meditation of 7,000 people took place and they all meditated with the intention of having a positive effect on the city. They did this for 3 weeks. The results of that group meditation transformed the city's crime rates, acts of violence, and death. There was an average reduction in all three by 16%. Impressive!
Since then, more than 50 studies have been conducted on the Maharishi effect with varied results. Most studies indicate the clear power of meditation to transform global life and patterns.
When the study was repeated in Wales, they got amazing results. In 1987 Merseyside had the third highest crime rate of the eleven largest Metropolitan Areas in England and Wales; by 1992 it had the lowest crime rate. 40% below levels predicted by the previous behaviour of the series. There were 255,000 less crimes in Merseyside from 1988 to 1992 than would have been expected had Merseyside continued to follow the national crime trend.”
These results truly are incredible. It's wonderful to see meditation have such a profound effect. To add to this thought, David Edwards, a Professor of Government at the University of Texas at Austin says:
“I think the claim can be plausibly made that the potential impact of this research exceeds that of any other ongoing social or psychological research program. It has survived a broader array of statistical tests than most research in the field of conflict resolution. This work and the theory that informs it the most serious consideration by academics and policy makers alike.”

Naphtali Ziff JP
Joel Pirchesky was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His strive for achievement was seen throughout his early education in his continual academic performance and with his leadership in Scouting he earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
After graduating Taylor Allderdice High School with honors in 1990, he went on to the University of Pittsburgh and completed his studies with a Bachelors of Art in Anthropology and minor in Psychology and graduated Summa Cum Laude. While at the University, he became a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society. He also had his first major international experience by participating in the Semester at Sea Program which travelled to ten countries around the world.
After graduation, he was employed as a tariff publisher in the shipping industry working for DXI, Inc. Then exploring his love and compassion for people, Mr. Pirchesky worked for several years with children with Autism and adults with mental health disabilities, both in Greensboro, North Carolina and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1997, Mr. Pirchesky chose to pursue his interest in his Judaic roots and went to Yeshiva, a school for Judaic Torah Study, first for a year in Monsey, New York and then a year in Israel, learning on Mount Zion, Jerusalem and in the holy city of Sefad, in the northern region of the Holy Land. After Judaical studies, Mr. Pirchesky furthered his education and became a Certified Respiratory Therapist. At the same time, Mr. Pirchesky was President of his congregation, Bnai Emunoh, for four years, and was the leader in the movement to save and revitalize the synagogue.

The Crucible and The Paradox, The Common Light of Christians and Jews

Naphtali Ziff JP
This is the beginning of my book, "The Crucible and The Paradox. The Common Light of Christians and Jews".
With Inspiration I will continue until it is complete. For those who care to read and take the time. I thank you.
G-d Bless
It has been a long road. Many roads and what I feel has also been many lifetimes. I ask myself, where is the world to come if we keep on being sent back here. To accomplish our tasks and fix others we have messed up along the way, I most always feel myself tired. It seems as though I only want to be in Heaven with G-d, but I find myself here. That is why I cherish my time together with Him, in the quiet times of my day when I lay down and meditate, putting my mind on Heaven and speaking to G-d. Hisbodddut is what it is called in Hebrew, or Talking to G-d, but I am sure it has its name in many cultures and people. You see that is what we have the same, all of us. No matter what culture or what people, everyone has their way of connecting to the Divine. I myself have immersed myself in Judaism for many years, however I also have spent time when I was younger learning about Buddhism and what it means to be awake.
That is where my concept and birth of One World Blue came from. We all come from One Source and connect with One Source, ultimately, even if one connects thru what we call in Judaism a Shittuf, or Partner with G-d, like Jesus or the first Buddha and those to follow. According to Jewish law, it is permissible for a non-Jew to go to the Divine thru a partner, a Shittuf, and have that partner take their prayers to the Father, the Omnipresent. It is not permissible for someone from the nation of Israel to do so, however. They must go straight to the Divine.
This is where my understanding of Christianity and Judaism comes into play, where I feel even if others from the nation of Israel have realized what I am going to tell you, most will not say it. At least a Rabbi would not say it. Although I have been called Rabbi by some of those great figures I have known in my heritage who can recognize my soul, I by no means ever profess to be one, nor do I have any desire as well. Not that there is anything wrong about the Rabbinical order. To the contrary, I have the greatest respect for my teachers and Rebbes.
But I would like to come to clarify some things that others may have thought of but would not say. As a Jew, we may wonder, why is it that so many gentiles look to a Jew as their spiritual head and leader. How could that be? They have had so much hatred and animosity for Jews I often ask myself and want to point out to them, do you not realize the one you call your savior was a Jew? How could it be that there is so much anti-Semitism?
But I have realized a few things I want to share with you that may bring some clarity between Christianity and Judaism and why I feel Jews and Christians have some things right, whereas they also have some things wrong. Can it be that they are both right and wrong at the same time? That would leave us with a Paradox. But all Paradoxes do have answers do they not? We must however be able to step back, out of our own shells and see the answer.
First and foremost I want to point out to you something that you may not know. That is that 95% of Rabbis from the sages of the past believed in the concept of reincarnation. There is a concept in Judaism called Tikun. That means rectification. Simply speaking it is the idea that when a soul lives a life it may make some mistakes or it may not finish its work. It therefore has to come back into the world again and fix what may have been wrong or finish what it may not have completed. I also want to tell you that the Torah is 100 % true and that the way of the sages from the Talmud I believe for a Jew is the most wholesome way to live, if that person is able to live on that level. I will also tell you however that if a person is not able to live 100 % the way our ancestors did, I personally do not believe when the Temple will return, that that person would be liable to things such as capital punishment like stoning, or other means, for not fulfilling certain mitzvoth, i.e. commandments. So, no I do not believe that Skilla, or stoning, will be carried out in the future for one who does not keep the Sabbath as one should. I will explain….
In my understanding, some souls are so high and so old that it is not easy or even metaphysically possible for them to carry out the degree of law necessary for fulfilling 100 % of the commandments, and still live a “normal” life or maintain a normal state of consciousness. Hashem, a Jewish word for our Creator, has placed Jews now in this time and place in certain locations and within certain families for a reason. A “high” or old soul may be placed within a Conservative or Reform household or even be born into a gentile family for a reason. Could be to hide them within the world. Could be maybe also because the level of mitzvot they do is just enough that Hashem wants them to perform to bring just the amount of Heavenly Light that comes with doing the mitzvoth to the degree that Hashem wants. A law of Spiritual Metaphysics you may say.
There is a concept in Judaism called tzimtzum, or contraction of the Light and revelation of Hashem in the world. When we rise in spiritual service with performing the commandments, the level of tzimzum within ourself is lessened so to speak and we experience more of the Divine awareness in our Life. Well that is great you would say. Right? We all should experience as much G-dly revelation as we could. Shouldn’t we? No. Sometimes revelation of the G-dly light is so much that it may break the vessel in which it is going into. This is the reason for the tzimzum. To keep the vessel at the most appropriate and healthy state. We are the vessel. Our mind and our bodies.
But the Torah says we must do such and such or else. Right? So how could that be that a very holy and high soul is born into a family that only does a minimum or mediocre amount of performance of the Torah? That soul is so holy. How could it possibly be breaking any of the commandments such as not keeping the Sabbath or not keeping kosher? The answer is this is the level they are at to keep them now at a healthy contraction, tzimzum, of the heavenly light going into their vessel (their body and mind) on a daily level. I have heard and seen too many stories myself of a young man who did not grow up in a “religious” Jewish household, being “mekiroved”, brought into religious Judaism by a religious observant practitioner, and going off to Yeshiva (Torah Rabbinical School), only then to have a mental disturbance and become very ill. Some may also go to Jerusalem and get what some call “Jerusalem syndrome”. We are at the level we are at in any given time of our life because that is where Hashem wants us to be. But what about the commandment not to trespass the negative commandments and to uphold and guard the positive ones? From my perspective as far as Judaism is concerned, we live the most wholesome life we can, keeping the mitzvot we can on our level, and the rest we put in the hands of Hashem. Hashem loves us and watches over us and above all He is graceful to us. When all is said and done it is exactly grace which will see us through in His eyes. That brings us to Amazing Grace…….
Before we get to that let me finish this last point I was making about high souls living on the level they are supposed to. I will tell you a story about my Aunt Molly. My Aunt Molly was a very wholesome soul. She lived a very simple life with her husband Uncle Babe for many many years. They were definitely soul mates. Uncle Babe’s story has it that when he was born he was born circumcised. Yes that’s right. It has happened sometimes in history and as I grew up I always heard the story from my Bobie (my grandmother) how Uncle Babe (her brother) was born circumcised. Also what was interesting was that when he left this world to go onto the next, Hashem took him on Shavuos, the holiday of the day of the giving of the Ten Commandments and the Holy Torah. It is also known that King David was taken on Shavuos and also tradition has it that he was born circumcised. Now if you want to check my spiritual resume so to speak I will give you my qualifications from my lineage. My Zadie, (my Grandfather on my mother’s side), passed on the last day of Pesach (Passover), my Bobie (my Grandmother on my mother’s side was taken on Shemini Azeret (the last holy days of the season of Sukkot), my Uncle Babe (Bobie brother) on Shavuot, and my Grandmotrher on my father’s side was niftir (passed on Yud Shevat) – ask a Lubavitcher the significance of that. I also had an Uncle pass on Tubishvat, my Great Grandmother passed on Rosh Hashanah, my Great Great Grandfather on the first day of Passover. They say when Hashem takes a person on Shabbat or a Holy Day it is a great kindness of Hashem and also a mark of how special the person was. It is said the soul goes right to Heaven, bypassing some of the other places a soul has to go to ‘reflect’ and get cleansed. So back to my Aunt Molly. When she passed I had an insight in my meditations that she was a Lamed Vav Tzedakkis. What is that? Hashem has 36 (Lamed Vav – Hebrew Letters equal 36) hidden righteous people in the world to hold up the world. It is because of these 36 righteous that the world continues to exist. When one is taken another has already been sent to take its place. Well there are 36 right? Actually I believe that there are 36 men and 36 women. Each Lamed Vav has his pair, so his soul mate that each one has is also a Lamed Vav. My Aunt Molly was a Lamed Vav Tzedakkis (Tzaddik is the Hebrew term for a righteous man and Tzadakkis is the Hebrew term for a righteous woman). So how do I know that I am correct? Well after I realized this I asked my teacher and Rebbe (Rabbi Abraham Lipshitz) the only one in my life I have ever called and will ever call Rebbenu). He was everything to me and he was the one who married my wife and I. I owe so very much to Rav Lipshitz. He told me as I asked him that I was correct and she was a Lamed Vav Tzedakkis. More about Rabbi Lipshitz and how I came to know him later in my discourse.
So how does any of this prove the earlier point I was making about high souls living on the level they are supposed to and according to Hashem’s plan, even if that means they do not keep Shomer Mitzvot (guarding all of the commandments, including the one’s where someone would be liable to the death penalty such as Skilla – stoning). Well my Aunt Molly, peace upon her righteous, holy and wholesome down to Earth neshama (Jewish word for soul) was not an observant Jew. She did not keep Shabbat. She did not keep kosher and she did not keep commandments as you may think a Lamed Vav would. She would come to our house for the holidays. She was kind. She was so very proper. And she was sweet sweet sweet. She had a way about her which just made you feel safe and loved and at home. But she was not ‘religious’. She lived a simple and wholesome life. She had a normal job as did my Uncle Babe. And she was a Lamed Vav. As I write this I also realize that my Uncle Babe was also a Lamed Vav. They were a pair.
So more now about Gilgulim, i.e. reincarnation. Our tradition teaches us that Moses was a reincarnated soul of Noah. Noah was a reincarnated soul of Adam. David was a reincarnated soul of Moses, hence a reincarnation of Adam. It is very clear to me that the person whom the world calls Jesus was a reincarnated soul of David, hence also a reincarnation of Adam. In my understanding the reason that Jesus was able to uproot the sin of Adam was because he WAS the soul of Adam. Hence the Tikun could take place. We all come from the same soul of the collective soul of Adam. There is in every generation a soul that encompasses all of the souls that Adam encompassed. Jesus was that soul. David was that soul. Moses was that soul. Noah was that soul. This is the part I believe Jews have wrong. This is the missing part about the soul called Jesus. I will explain more about this in my writings.
So what is the part that Christianity has wrong? “I am the Lord your G-d who has taken you out of the Land of Egypt. You shall have no other gods before me”. The fact that Christians believe that Jesus was G-d on Earth, descended to Earth, is a fundamental problem in Jewish faith. Jesus may have become one with the Almighty just as so many other souls before and after have also become one with Him. As a matter of fact every soul possesses the ability to unify with our Creator. As a matter of fact, we are one with Him when we come in the world, when we live in the world and when we leave the world. He created us. He breathed Life within us. The Holy Zohar teaches that G-d breathed the Soul of Adam into Adam and when you breathe into something that breath comes from Yourself. Everything is coming into Existence from Hashem. Hashem is creating tzimtum from within Himself to allow the existence of Creation and the space for things to be. Things here appear independent and separate from Hashem. But nothing can ever be truly separate from Hashem. It is One with Hashem by its very existence. AIN ODE MILVADO. There is Nothing in this World But Hashem. Just look at the verse in the Psalms that tell you this. Heaven and Earth is filled with His Glory.
So was Jesus one with Hashem. Yes. Are you One with Hashem. Yes. What one difference may be is that different people have different levels of devakus (attachments and clinging, binding oneself in closeness to the Creator). One person may have developed within him or herself a very great level of attachment to the Creator on a consciousness and relationship with our Heavenly Father than another person. Was Jesus of divine nature? Well we all are divine. Was his conception of a miraculous one? All conceptions are by very nature miraculous. Nature is the miraculous on a level we can understand but it still is in itself a miracle. The world is always being created Yesh MeAyin, i.e. Something from Nothing. That is in itself a miracle. Well did he come from the Immaculate Conception? I have heard people of my faith make fun of that saying how could that be? I myself do not think that is out of the realm of G-d. If his conception was created by G-d then is Jesus also G-d or G-dly? We all are G-dly. We all come from the Creator and the very beginning of all humanity was from Adam who was created by Hashem. How is that any different? But to say that one person is G-d incarnate is IDOLATRY. That is where Judaism has every reason to reject Christianity. We as Jews do not believe in or worship Idolatry. Can a gentile use a Shituf, a partner to take their prayers to Hashem? Yes. Can that person be Jesus for many? Well apparently Hashem has created such. Does Jesus sit at the right hand of the Father? I believe so. Just as this soul is Moses and David and Noah and Adam and this soul is the highest of all souls and sits at Hashem’s right hand. But the story of Passover is about Hashem taking the Israelites out of Egypt and not Moses because it truly was Hashem who did everything and does everything.
So am I a Jew for Jesus? No. I am a Jew. I also do not believe in the Jews for Jesus movement. I believe Jews should be Jews and live as Jews and Christians should be Christians, as Muslims should be Muslims and Buddhists should be Buddhists, etc., etc.
I also believe that the highest level to live in this world is by fulfilling all of the commandments that you are able to fulfill. I do not believe in eating trief meat (unkosher meat) not because I will be punished for it but because it takes me away from my attachment to Hashem. Likewise with other commandments, each on his/her own level. Will there be Skilla in the future? Most definitely not. Hashem looks upon us with Chen (Grace) and treats us as we would treat others. If you want to be kind to others Hashem will be kind to you and judge you favorably. Teach me the Torah on one foot was asked of the sage Hillel. His reply “Do unto your neighbor as you would do unto yourself”. Misdeeds against our fellow men and women must be dealt with accordingly. Misdeeds between man and his Creator are for Him to Judge. That is my understanding. I am not here to preach or convert. I am here to only tell the Truth in my heart as I see it.

A Heartfelt Message of Gratitude from the CEO
Thank you Mom for everything you have done for me and this corporation. Thank you for Standing by me when no one else would. Thank you for telling me so long ago that Lion Heart will succeed. Thank you for telling me "Do not jump off a sinking ship", in the many years ago when I could not understand the work I knew I was being led to do but could not see the fruits. "Those who tearfully sow will reap in glad song. He who bears the measure of seeds walks along weeping, but will return in exultation, a bearer of Sheaves." Psalm 126
It was also only to me fully understood what you meant when our dear friend and also advisor, Tempa Lama, told me as well, that there is an old saying, "When the ship seems like it is sinking, the first to scurry are the mice. But the captain always stays with the ship".
This ship, thanks to Glory to Heaven as well as Respect and Honor to the many esteemed advisors the corporation has had for so many years, is not by any means in this position now, nor will it be so in the future. We have now become a worldwide movement for Good on this Earth.
Thank you so very very much for everything. May you be forever blessed and may the Almighty Grant you all of your wishes for Good. May you continue to inspire others and have the blessings to continue your work in doing good deeds for others and being one of Heaven's Helpers here as well on Earth.
Faithfully forever, With Love and Gratitude

In some of my most challenging years, thank you for the friendship I found in you thru reading your books. You are the only author in my life whom I have followed and read consistently. May you have a peaceful place in the world to come.

“Michael’s talent out-scaled even his own dinosaurs of Jurassic Park. He was the greatest at blending science with big theatrical concepts, which is what gave credibility to dinosaurs again walking the Earth. Michael was a gentle soul who reserved his flamboyant side for his novels. There is no one in the wings that will ever take his place.” —
Director and Film Producer Steven Spielberg
In Michael's Own Words
Michael Crichton - When I was 15 I wanted to go to college and be a writer. When I was 20, I was in college and applying to medical school to become a doctor. When I was 25, I was in medical school but I was going to quit when it was finished. When I was 30, I was a successful film director with my first film, Westworld, in release. When I was 35, I had almost decided I didn’t want to direct any more, but I wasn’t sure what to do next. So I started a software company and did computer games. When I was 40, I really wanted to only direct movies and never write again. When I was 45, I had my first child and I was happily writing and not interested in directing. … I feel like my life has been very exciting and very unpredictable.
From his Biography on:
http://www.michaelcrichton.com/biography/
Michael Crichton was a writer and filmmaker, best known as the author of Jurassic Park and the creator of ER. His latest posthumous novel, MICRO, was released on November 22, 2011.
Crichton graduated summa cum laude from Harvard College, received his MD from Harvard Medical School, and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, researching public policy with Jacob Bronowski. He taught courses in anthropology at Cambridge University and writing at MIT. Crichton’s 2004 bestseller, State of Fear, acknowledged the world was growing warmer, but challenged extreme anthropogenic warming scenarios. He predicted future warming at 0.8 degrees C. (His conclusions have been widely misstated.)
Crichton’s interest in computer modeling went back forty years. His multiple-discriminant analysis of Egyptian crania, carried out on an IBM 7090 computer at Harvard, was published in the Papers of the Peabody Museum in 1966. His technical publications included a study of host factors in pituitary chromophobe adenoma, in Metabolism, and an essay on medical obfuscation in the New England Journal of Medicine.
Crichton’s first bestseller, The Andromeda Strain, was published while he was still a medical student. He later worked full time on film and writing. One of the most popular writers in the world, he has sold over 200 million books. His books have been translated into thirty-eight languages and thirteen have been made into films.
He had a lifelong interest in computers. His feature film Westworld was the first to employ computer-generated special effects back in 1973. Crichton’s pioneering use of computer programs for film production earned him a Technical Achievement Academy Award in 1995.
Crichton won an Emmy, a Peabody, and a Writer’s Guild of America Award for ER. In 2002, a newly discovered ankylosaur was named for him: Crichtonsaurus bohlini. He is survived by his wife Sherri, his daughter Taylor and his son, John Michael.

Yarzheit of the Arizal HaKodesh - Anniverary of the passing of the Holy Ari Mystic of Kabbalah

Naphtali Ziff JP
HOLY RABBI ISAAC LURIA
1534 -1572 (5th, Heh of Av)
The Eight Gates of the Arizal
Retrieved from
http://www.safed.co.il/eight-gates-of-arizal.html
Undoubtedly the greatest influence upon the study of Kabbalah has been the teachings of Rabbi Yitzchak Luria, known by the acronym "Arizal". In 16th Century Safed, he revealed a complex and dynamic new dimension to Jewish mysticism in particular, and Torah study, in general. Today, the vast majority of serious study of authentic Kabbalah is the study of the writings of the Arizal and his students. Besides the central "textbook" of Kabbalah in his writings, "Etz Chaim", translated as "Tree of Life", is a vast collection of his teachings that were assembled by his primary student Rabbi Chaim Vital and his son, Rabbi Shmuel Vital. These teachings are known as the "Eight Gates" and comprise the majority of topics covered by the Arizal. Later, other texts were published, most of which deal with similar subject matter but with many new insights. Following is a listing and brief description of each of the "Eight Gates".
The Eight Gates
"Shaar Hakdamot", or "Gate of Introductions" covers the main themes of the structure of Creation and the process of its rectification.
"Shaar Maamarei Rashbi", or the "Gate of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai's Teachings", is a series of expositions based on particular passages of the Zohar, transmitted by Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, from the 2nd Century. Some of these teachings are but brief clarifications of the Zohar, while others are nothing less than new revelations as to the nature of Creation, as only hinted at by the Zohar, considered the foundation text of Kabbalah.
"Shaar Maamarei Razal", or the "Gate of Sages' Teachings", explains the mystical depths of a great many statements made by the Talmudic sages and general topics in the Oral Torah.
"Shaar HaPasukim", or "Gate of Verses", reveals spiritual depths and background to events and subject matter in the Bible.
"Shaar HaMitzvot", or "Gate of Commandments", teaches the mystical basis for particular commandments, including a great many meditations associated with them.
"Shaar HaKavanot", sometimes translated as "Gate of Meditations", teaches the mystical underpinnings behind the daily order according to Jewish law, particularly the daily prayers. The second half deals with Shabbat and holidays. This vast body of knowledge not only teaches about the daily rituals and prayers, but includes a vast system of meditative practices as well as unique Kabbalistic customs pertaining to mitzvah observance.
"Shaar Ruach HaKodesh", or "Gate of Divine Inspiration", is comprised of hundreds of particular Kabbalistic meditations geared to heal and purify the soul, as well as attain higher levels of consciousness. It also includes a number of introductions to the topic of prophecy in general.
"Shaar HaGilgulim", or "Gate of Reincarnations", is a lengthy treatment of the topic of reincarnation, the nature of the soul and the process of perfection necessary for each person. It also includes detailed accounts of the majority of Biblical figures and their respective reincarnations and soul roots.

Light is the symbol of the divine. The change in the nature of light will increase the level of G-dliness in a profound way.
The darkness of war, injustice, and ignorance will become obsolete with the new holy illumination.
Let the new light prevail and usher in peace, integrity and growth

Miracles, the third temple & the resurrection of the

More G-dliness, can be seen now as we approach
this metamorphosis; albeit it's tumultuous, so as it

Bart Foley

Naphtali Ziff JP
I am proud to make a spotlight of a long time friend of mine who I feel has made some great accomplishments in life. His name is Bart Foley and he is a licensed Therapist practicing in Los Angeles. Bart is also an accomplished and talented actor and musician and has brought joy and laughter to many people. His bio and background is below:
Bart Foley is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFC #48016) in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles. He is able to address a broad range of issues, and treats couples, adults and adolescents. His approach to counseling includes Psychodynamic, Systems Centered, and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.
In addition to supervising therapists and interns, Bart has led trainings in Attachment Theory and Adult Romantic Love, Mindfulness Techniques to Decrease Anxiety, and Treating Substance Abuse. He has 10 years experience working as a Substance Abuse Counselor and completed a practicum at New Leaf Services for the LGBT community. Also, Bart was selected for and completed a highly sought after two year internship with a Certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist Supervisor.
APPROACH
Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples, EFT is a powerful form of therapy that increases mutual understanding of both partners’ emotions and experiences. Have you noticed how particular types of arguments often recur over and over again? EFT is so transformational and effective that it can actually turn these fighting patterns into bonding patterns and opportunities for intimacy. The therapist is there first and foremost to support the relationship and does not take sides with either partner, which creates an extremely safe space for exploration.
Research studies find that 70-75% of couples move from distress to recovery with EFT, and approximately 90% respond with significant improvements.
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Psychodynamic therapy focuses on the conscious and unconscious roots of emotional suffering and problematic behavior. Its goal is not only to alleviate the most obvious symptoms but to help people lead healthier lives. It effectively treats symptoms including depression, anxiety, panic and stress-related physical ailments, and the benefits of the therapy grow after treatment has ended, according to new research published by the American Psychological Association.

To Save These Rare Giraffes, Uganda Built an Ark (of Sorts)

As poachers and oil drills threaten a recently war-torn national park, a team of rangers and scientists send an endangered herd on an epic journey.
About 1,250 endangered Rothchild’s giraffes live north of the Nile River in Uganda’s Murchison Falls National Park.
Joel Sartore
The veterinarian leaned out the Land Cruiser’s passenger-side window, a tranquilizer gun propped on his shoulder. After eyeing a herd of giraffes, he leveled the rifle and took a shot. Suddenly, two of the animals broke into a clumsily elegant lope until one, with a dart’s pink faux feathers visible in its haunch, slowed. A team of park rangers jumped out of another vehicle and ran toward the groggy yet spooked giraffe. They slung a rope around its chest, then crossed the rope behind the animal’s sloping back. The giraffe dragged the men along for a few seconds before it wobbled and came crashing down, Gulliver laid low by Lilliputians.
A group of scientists and vets sprinted toward the animal, through the tall grass of Uganda’s Murchison Falls National Park. Despite a heavy dose of tranquilizer, the 2,000-pound male wasn’t out cold. Four men leaned on his torso to hold him down. Others skittered about, measuring every body part, taking the giraffe’s temperature, and drawing blood samples.
“Ten minutes!” shouted Liza Dadone, an American veterinarian, as she bent low and pressed a stethoscope to the animal’s heaving chest. “Heart rate 70!”
Timing was crucial. Given a giraffe’s complicated physiology—for one thing, getting blood to its extremities requires exceptionally high blood pressure—it was important to minimize its time on the ground. Additionally, a near-lethal dose of anesthesia is necessary to ensure giraffes go down quickly instead of running off and injuring themselves. The team had 20 minutes to administer the tranquilizer’s antidote, or the patient might never wake up.
Straddling the animal’s long neck and holding a towel over his eyes to keep him calm was the team’s unofficial leader, Julian Fennessy, a 42-year-old Australian biologist and founder of the Namibia-based Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF). “Oof! That’s a big boy!” he said, smiling.
It was early afternoon on a warm January day in Uganda’s largest national park, a 1,500-square-mile idyll of grasslands, forests, and hills, bisected by the Victoria Nile and teeming with wildlife—a casual drive through might yield sightings of elephants, hippos, kob, oribi, buffalo, warthogs, baboons, monkeys, and countless birds. Fennessy and his team were there to help the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) with a unique translocation of 20 rare giraffes from the section of the park north of the river, where they are under growing threat from oil drilling and poaching, to its more removed southern sector. Fennessy and his wife, Stephanie, who cofounded and helps run GCF, had been coordinating with the UWA for more than a year on what they dubbed Operation Twiga, using the Swahili word for giraffe. This afternoon’s capture was the 17th in nearly two weeks, and the team had clearly honed their wrangling process.
For the Fennessys, giraffes are a family affair. Julian and Steph, who had hair from the first giraffe they tagged together woven into their wedding rings, often bring their children, Luca, 10, and Molly, 7, to work with them.
George Woodcock/©AGB Films
The giraffe on the ground bucked, blowing massive bursts of hot breath from his nostrils as the rangers fitted a yellow sugar sack over his head as an improvised blindfold. Then they threaded a rope around his chest and gathered around him the animal in a loose circle, with teams of men on each end of the rope. One ranger held a rope around the giraffe’s neck, like a leash. In the center, Fennessy stood over his haunch and slapped it three times.
“Heya! Come on, get up!” No response. Fennessy leaned in, grabbed the animal’s long, thin tail with one hand, and bit down. Suddenly, the giraffe snapped to life and struggled to his feet. He spun left, thrashing his head, then spun right, as the rope handlers hustled to guide him forward into a four-foot-wide trailer nearby. The man holding the neck leash reeled the giraffe in while others closed the gate behind him. The awkward dance was over.
The tail bite, Fennessy revealed, is a trick he learned from a South African veterinarian. “Obviously it’s been effective,” he said, “though I have to say, it doesn’t taste great.”

Tosh Rebbe

Naphtali Ziff JP
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tosh_(Hasidic_dynasty)
Tosh (also "Tash"; Hebrew/Yiddish: טאהש) is a Hasidic dynasty originating in Nyirtass, Hungary. Today it is based in Kiryas Tosh, Quebec, Canada, outside Boisbriand, Quebec, a suburb of Montreal. The current leader is Grand Rabbi Elimelch Segal-Loewy, who succeeded his late father Meshulim Feish Lowy upon the latter's death on 12 August 2015. Tosher Hasidim have synagogues in the United States in Boro Park, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Kiryas Joel, and Monsey, as well as in Montreal and in London, England.
The Tosh Dynasty[edit]
The first Tosher Rebbe was Grand Rabbi Meshulam Feish Segal-Loewy I, a disciple of Rabbi Yitschok Ayzik of Komarno, author of Heichal HaBrocho. Rabbi Yitschok Ayzik was a disciple of Rabbi Tzvi Hirsh of Zidichov, a disciple of the Chozeh of Lublin. The Chozeh was a disciple of Rebbe Elimelech of Lizhensk, author of Noam Elimelech. The Rebbe Elimelech was a disciple of the Rebbe Dovber, the Maggid (Preacher) of Mezeritch, the primary disciple of the Baal Shem Tov, the founder of Hasidism.
Grand Rabbi Meshulam Feish Segal-Lowy I of Tosh - disciple of the Heichal HaBrocho.
Grand Rabbi Elimelech Segal-Lowy of Tosh - son of Rebbe Meshulam Feish.
Grand Rabbi Mordechai Segal-Lowy of Demecser - son of Rebbe Elimelech of Tosh.
Grand Rabbi Meshulam Feish Segal-Lowy of Tosh II - reviver of the Tosh dynasty after the holocaust - son of Rebbe Mordechai of Demetsche and his wife Tzirl.
Grand Rabbi Elimelech Segal-Lowy of Tosh - present Grand Rebbe of Tosh - son of Rebbe Meshulam Feish Segal-Lowy of Tosh.
The Tosh community was revived after the holocaust by Rabbi Meshulim Feish Lowy Ztl (Magyarized form: Lőwy Ferencz), the Rebbe of Tosh. Rabbi Lőwy was born in Nyirtass, Hungary in 5682 Anno Mundi (1921 or 1922). He survived the Holocaust in the Hungarian Labour Service, and was liberated by the Red Army from a camp outside Marghita in October 1944. The few surviving hasidim of his father Grand Rebbe Mordechai Márton Lőwy, who perished in Auschwitz with most of his extended family, appointed him their Rebbe and he established his court in Nyíregyháza. In 1951, fearing the Communist government, he ordered his followers to leave Hungary and emigrated to Canada, settling in Montreal. In 1963, he and his hasidim purchased an area in Boisbriand, Quebec, forming the enclave of Kiryas Tosh. Lőwy was married to Chava (née Weingarten), a direct descendant of Rebbe Elimelech of Lizhensk, from 1946 until her death in 1996. He married Malka Hass in 2007.
The Tosh community is headed by Rabbi Elimelech Segal-Lowy, the current Rebbe of Tosh.
Collected teachings[edit]
Many of Rabbi Lőwy's sermons and discourses have been written down in a series of five books entitled Avodas Avodah. Two of them are Hebrew language books that explain the weekly Torah portions, and Jewish holidays with practical insights into divine service which are subtitled: Dibros Kodesh. Further two are Yiddish language books that explain the weekly Torah portions, and the Jewish holidays with practical insights into divine service which are entitled: Imros Kodesh. Another is mostly in Hebrew, but has Yiddish segments. It is a compilation of addresses that the Tosher Rebbe has made regarding the Yahrzeit (day of passing) of a large number of Jewish holy men, arranged according to the Jewish calendar. It is subtitled Sichos Kodesh. A second volumes of 'Sichos Kodesh' appeared in 2009.

Chaim Ben Avigdor

Naphtali Ziff JP
This is the beginning of My Spotlight for my Zadie (Grandfather) Chaim Ben Avigdor, Hyman Ziff, OBM, who passed away when I was 13. He taught me many things during the time I knew him. I also have realized he has not been very far since then....
I have built this business of One World Blue, LLC on his desk which he used as well for his business. It is made of Solid Oak :) He was a contractor and builder. He was a great carpenter and a great man.
During Christmas, even though we were Jewish, he would sing Christmas Carols on his Organ and also give gifts to his workers and even those who served his house from the city, i.e. the mail delivery, sanitation engineers, and any one else he was able to give to.
Zadie Hy was also President of our congregation for many years, Bnai Emunoh, which means Children of Faith. I have gone to shul (synagogue) there since I was young, with old timers of the shul who have since passed, such as Harry Storh and Milton Zelkowitz, as well as with my Bubbie (Grandma) and my Aunt Bebe as they played Bingo when I was young in the social hall. The members were even able to pay off the building of the synagogue and help with operations and endowment from the bingo and community volunteers who helped run it. The Power of Good Team Work!!!
My Zadie was also a proud Mason as well as a Shriner. He gave back his success to many people.
He was also a great musician as I have aready partially noted and he had a band when he was younger called Hy Ziff and The Melody Boys.
I will be posting pictures of things which he either gave as gifts to me or my family, or made himself with his own hands in his workshop in his basement and backyard wood shed, as well as pictures of my Zadie and our Family.
Some History
The Ziff's came from Kovno, Lithuania, just over the bridge from Vilna. My family tree has been researched extensively by our cousin Simon Ziff. Our family at some point also married into the Vilna Goan's family. He was an important Rabbi that lived several centuries ago.
Part of the Ziff family moved to England and my family moved to the US. In England, our relatives co-founded Marks and Spencer Department Store. Co-Founded by Baron Israel Sieff (name was changed from Ziff to Sieff) and Simon Marks. Marks and Spencer originally started out with Penny Bazaars. Our family back in Kovno, I am told by my Aunt Natalie, were originally horse traders and also had a trading post. Business has been in our family :) [On both of my sides].
So more to come soon, but I wanted to start this spotlight and I will add more photos and information with time.
Thank you for looking and reading into our family history. I believe that Ancestry is important and should be respected, honored and upheld.

Bodhidharma

Naphtali Ziff JP
Thank you Tienko for connecting the past to the Present and Future. It has been a real honor to have you in our lives.....I look forward to continued common work together for the benefit of all.
My best,
Joel
Source reference for biography below:
http://www.buddhanet.net/e-learning/history/bodhidharma.htm
Bodhidharma is revered as the father of Ch'an and Zen Buddhism. Most of us involved in Ch'an, Zen or Buddhism know that the word Ch'an is a rendition of the Pali word Jhana, which means meditation. Similarly, we know that the Japanese word Zen is a rendition of the Chinese word Ch'an. Buddhists and Orientologists are aware that the Ch'an/Zen texts hold that an Indian Monk named Bodhidharma is attributed to be the founder of Ch'an and therefore Zen. There have been various theories presented on Bodhidharma by the academicians or Orientologists who study the Ch'an/Zen branch of Buddhism. However, these are arbitrary.
After years of studying Ch'an/Zen, the authors of this excerpt are presenting a different and radical perspective. This work does not place emphasis on merely the historicity of Bodhidharma [Ta Mo in Chinese and Daruma Daishi in Japanese]. Instead this work emphasizes on the metaphysical sense of the said propounder of Ch'an or Zen Buddhism.
If one travels to Asia, that is, China or Japan, one might notice that the Ch'an or Zen Masters of the ancient past, and especially Bodhidharma, are revered as Divinities. This is because within the apparently simplistic texts of the Ch'an or Zen there is an Esoteric aspect that preserves for posterity the metaphysics of Ch'an or Zen. However, the contemporary world of Buddhist scholars did not realize this and could not understand why the Ch'an/Zen followers approached Bodhidharma as a Buddha or Divinity.
In accordance with this Esotericism was the culture and practice of Ch'an/Zen. However, in the wake of contemporary culturing even the Chinese, Japanese and Koreans adopted the so-called rational approach to the practice of Ch'an/Zen and therefore abandoned their traditional approach. In the wake of this attitude the Kung-an/Koan's of Ch'an/Zen are interpreted as verses that one cannot not grasp intellectually. However, this view is based on an error in reading the texts.
To understand this, let us scrutinize an early Chinese text on the propounder of Ch'an and therefore Zen. This will lead us to understand that innately in these texts are esoteric notions of Ch'an/Zen Buddhism and they offer reasons as to why the non-Westernized cultures have a variant approach to Bodhidharma to the West.
The earliest narrative on Bodhidharma, though apparently brief, is presented in a Chinese work that is offering a description of the forty-five temple monasteries of Lo-Yang. Apparently a Chinese monk known as Yang Hsuan-chih is presented meeting Bodhidharma who originated from the Western Region, who was a hundred and fifty years of age, in the temple of Yung-ning-ssu [Japanese, Einei-ji]. This narrative of the Yung-ning-ssu, as part of the Lo-Yang temple narrative, is in fact a remarkable record on the reconciliation of philosophies by the Chinese tradition. In fact, the Chinese tradition not only reconciled the differences between the ancient Chinese philosophy of Taoism and the later philosophies of Buddhism as the Sarvastivada and Mahayana, but also offered a solution to explain the differences between these philosophies. Unfortunately, due to the lack of understanding of the language of the ancient, religious philosophies, the Lo-Yang or Yung-ning-ssu narrative could never be appreciated by the contemporary world of scholars and also Buddhists. Though the Lo-Yang or Yung-ning-ssu narrative is a remarkable record on Chinese philosophy, we will instead focus on the philosophy and history of Ch'an or Zen Buddhism that is centered around Bodhidharma.
The name Bodhidharma is composed of two Sanskrit words. The word Bodhi refers to the Ch'an/Zen Buddhists' definition of the Ultimate Reality as this Mind-All Reality, which is to them the Buddha Nature. Dharma is a Sanskrit word that equates with Tao. However when both words are read together, Bodhidharma would mean the Propensity of the Mind or Bodhi Essence. In simple words, the Ch'an/Zen records also carry within their narratives a metaphysical sense or meaning of Buddhism. In this sense, Bodhidharma can be read as denoting the Ch'an or Zen Ontology. In fact, the modern world of scholarship is unaware that Ch'an/Zen is not devoid of philosophy and metaphysics but that its praxis does not dwell on it. To understand this, let us interpret a portion of the Lo-Yang or Yung-ning-ssu excerpt that is relevant to Bodhidharma or Ta Mo [Chinese] and Daruma Daishi [Japanese].
"In those days there was a Shramana Bodhidharma from the Western Regions, originally a man from Persia [?]. He came from rugged countries and was staying in the Middle Land. When he beheld how the golden dome sparkled in the sun, how its light reflected upon the surfaces of the clouds, how the precious bell housed the wind within itself and how its voice rang beyond the heavens, he sang a hymn of praise, 'Truly how wonderful it all is!' He said that he was one hundred and fifty years old and had traveled all countries and visited all regions, but that nothing in Jambudvipa was comparable with the beauty of this temple, that it surprassed all others, and that there was nothing like it anywhere. With hands clasped, he daily invoked devotedly the name of Buddha."
["Zen Buddhism: A history of India and China" by Heinrich Dumoulin].
Thus, let us focus on the metaphysical sense of the above phrase, "In those days there was the Shramana Bodhidharma from the Western Regions." This phrase merely means that the Mind or Bodhi Essence or Buddha Nature, or metaphysically Bodhidharma, originates from the West. This phrase also reveals that this excerpt belongs to the Chinese Immanentists, who are accounting for the interrelationship between the Transcendentalists and themselves in the above excerpt. The translator of this text then interprets Bodhidharma as being "originally a Man from Persia [?]." The Chinese word that Buddhology interprets as Persia only suggests the extreme west of the Chinese metaphysical premise, figuratively to the west of India [The Chinese upheld an integral system of philosophy.] Thus, the reason for the text to highlight that Bodhidharma originates from the extreme West is to emphasize on the Purity of the Mind or Bodhi Essence or Buddha Nature. [After the Solar Dissolution only the Buddha Nature remains]. Then follows the phrase: "He came from rugged countries and was staying in the Middle Land." This of course means that since the Solar Dissolution occurs in the "West," this is a rugged or harsh country; therefore, Bodhidharma was residing in the Middle Land or the point at which the Absolute Buddha Mind is imperishable in the advent of the Solar or Grand Dissolution. The term "Middle Land" also implies that the metaphysical notion of Bodhidharma reflects the World reality. This contrasts with the notion of Cosmic metamorphosis of the Transcendentalists. Then Bodhidharma sang a hymn of praise, "When he beheld how the golden dome sparkled in the sun, how its light reflected upon the surfaces of the clouds, how the precious bell housed the wind within itself and how its voice rang beyond the heavens." This hymn means that the upper realm or reality which is the Pure Mind Essence, or figuratively the golden dome of the temple, was in harmony with the Karmic forces of Creation or Manifestation, or figuratively the Sun, and the illumination of the golden dome or the Pure Mind Essence reflected Sentiency, or figuratively "its light reflected upon the surfaces of the clouds." The verse that follows is in fact uniquely Ch'an or Zen. This verse says: "how the precious bell housed the wind within itself and how its voice rang beyond the heavens." In Ch'an or Zen, the Bodhi or Mind or Buddha Nature is not an extraneous transcendental concept; the Bodhi Mind or Buddha Nature is an IMMANENT REALITY. In simple words, this very self and the mundane world are not mundane at all but have all the qualities of transcendence, only our conditioning leads us to believe that this world and the self are mundane. Since the Bodhi or Buddha Nature is immanent, and the very self is sublime, the belief that there is Manifestation and Dissolution is invalid, as all is Bodhi or Buddha Nature. It is for this reason that the verse says, "how the precious bell housed the wind within itself and how its voice rang beyond the heavens." In other words, the "precious bell" or the Manifestive Cosmic Sound "houses" or contains "the wind" or Prana or Primordial Cosmic Breath that triggers Cosmic Manifestation or Genesis. Thus, the Ch'an or Zen philosophy does not believe in a transcendental Bodhi or Buddha Being that causes the notion of Creation and Dissolution. It only believes that the immanent Bodhi Reality in its conditioned or "mundane state," so to speak, ideates this world of experience or Reality. Thus in its true state, the Bodhi or Buddha Nature contains or "houses the wind within itself." The parallel of this is the following verse from the "Blue Cliff Records":
"A pure wind invites the universe
where will it find an end?"
[Bi-Yan-Lu 1,44]
ln fact, before Ch'an or Zen, the belief was that the Cosmic Breath "gave the initial stir" within the Cosmic Absolute, after the occurrence of Primordial thought or Logos, to propel Genesis. However, the Ch'an or Zen tradition, which believes in the Bodhi or Buddha Nature as an immanent reality, maintains that the Primordial Prana or Cosmic Breath or Wind does not emanate. The Emanation that we believe occurs is merely an experience of our conditioned, Karmic minds. Thus all there ever was and will be is the Bodhi or Buddha Nature. This Bodhi or Buddha Nature is Esoterically termed as Bodhidharma by these metaphysical records of Ch'an/Zen. Thus, the text says that Bodhidharma beheld "how the precious bell housed the wind within itself and how its voice rang beyond the heavens." The phrase, "its voice rang beyond the heavens" means that this Cosmic Sound that triggers Creation [according to all schools of religio-philosophy] occurs in the Void or Sunya [in Buddhism and Ch'an/Zen]. In other words, since the Bodhi or Buddha Nature is an immanent reality, this "ringing" or Manifestation does not unfurl but occurs. This takes Ch'an or Zen to the understanding that the Bodhi or Buddha Nature is immanent. In simple words, we in a sense do not at all manifest but in actuality exist in the Bodhi or Buddha realm, only our Karmic conditioning makes us believe that we are in a manifested, mundane world.
Then the text states that Bodhidharma "had traveled all countries and visited all regions, but that nothing in Jambudvipa was comparable with the beauty of this temple, that it surpassed all others, and that there was nothing like it anywhere." This statement means that the text is aware of "all countries" or philosophical premises and "all regions" or all the three realms or realities of the Mahayana Buddhists, that is, Dharma-kaya, Samhhoga-kaya, and Nirmana-kaya. However, nothing in Jambudvipa was comparable with the beauty of this Temple or Ontological Reality. In other words, the Ch'an or Zen philosophy believes that the Bodhi or Buddha Nature is immanent and this far surpasses in "sublimity" even the philosophical premises of the Transcendentalists. It also surpasses the philosophy of the Realists and Idealists that is jargonically referred to in the text as Jambudvipa or, hyper-jargonically, India. It is this Immanent Bodhi Reality that Bodhidharma saw in this temple and since he is in fact one with the temple, "With hands clasped, he daily invoked devotedly the name of Buddha."
Thus, the above Lo-Yang or Yung-ning-ssu narrative had all along contained the entire seeds of Ch'an/Zen philosophy, which was beyond the understanding of the contemporary world of Buddhologists. Since Buddhologists contend that the Lo-Yang or Yung-ning-ssu [Japanese, Einei-ji] record is at least as early as the 547 AD era, the history and also the philosophy of Ch'an/Zen has to be rewritten.
In fact, the realization that the Bodhi or Buddha Nature is an immanent reality, and the idea that the Manifestation and Dissolution of the Cosmos is merely an assumption of our conditioned minds, led to the pronouncement of the now famous four-line eulogy on Ch'an or Zen:
"A special transmission outside the scriptures,
Not founded upon words and letters;
By pointing directly to Mind.
It lets one see into nature and attain Buddhahood."
Indeed, it is a special transmission outside the scriptures [Taoism, Vedism, Sarvastivada, and Mahayana]. Of course since the Ch'an or Zen tradition believes in an Immanent Bodhi or Buddha Reality and therefore not an externalized manifestation or materialisation of the Cosmic principle of Sound, the tribute,"Not founded upon words and letters" is apt. Since the Bodhi or Buddha Reality is immanent, one only needs to point directly to this Bodhi or Buddha Mind or, simply, Mind and it leads one into its nature to attain Buddhahood.

The Doves of Nemerov

Naphtali Ziff JP
Echoes of the Massacre of Nemerov
In Kremenitz he found Yeshivah Ohel Yitzchak (after its founder,Rabbi Yitzchak Hakohen, a pupil of the Maharshal), and here he attended the shiurim of the gaon Rabbi Yechezkel Meir. Here, too, he found a veritable treasure of a library of the yeshivah books, and he spent weeks delving into them, to his endless delight.
Naturally, Zecharya Yerucham decided to visit Nemerov, his hometown, and the scene of the awful massacre of his people by Chmelnitzki's bandits, from whom he had fled in terror as a child, ten years previously.
Sole Survivor Returns to the Scene of the Massacre
The nearer he came to Nemerov, the more he learned about the terrible things that had happened in this town of slaughter.
When he finally reached Nemerov, he found the place still in ruins.
Here he learned more details about his family who were murdered. From Nemerov, Zecharya Yerucham went on to the village where the colony of the Doves used to be. Here he found the only Jewish family who lived there.
The family of the old miller, Mendel. He was one of three Jews whom the villagers had managed to hide and rescue, but the other two had long since left, and only Mendel now remained to tell his tale:
The "Old Saint" Who Was Revered by Non-Jews
The miller took Zecharya Yerucham around and showed him the houses where the colonists used to live, especially pointing out the house of the "old saint," the name which the peasants had given to the founder of the colony, Zecharya Yerucham, after whom the iluy of Nemerov was called.
These houses were already old and tumbledown, and other people now lived in them. Only the house of the old saint remained empty.
It was a white washed house with a big garden.
The villagers still talked with awe about the old Zecharya Yerucham, saying that when he lived in the village, no mother, woman or beast, lost her young!

Aleph - A Meaning of Oneness

Naphtali Ziff JP
Aleph - A Meaning of Oneness
Another name for our Creator is Ein Sof, literally the "Without End". Ein Sof is related to the word, Ayin, which begins with an Aleph and means "nothing". Aryeh Kaplan explains that one connotation of the term Ein Sof is "the Ultimate Nothingness". Whatever creation springs from this Ultimate Nothingness is itself ultimately nothing. The essence of Aleph and our lives is therefore nothingness. We can see this when, for example, we examine the nature of our minds. We can't hold onto the past mind, we can't hold onto the future mind, and even the present is fleeting and elusive. Our minds, like the Ein Sof and like Aleph, are impossible to grasp, simultaneously empty and full.
The Paradox of Ultimate Nothingness is that because it is so vast and all-encompassing, with no beginning and no end, it is also Ultimate Oneness.
Ultimate Oneness, Ultimate Nothingness - Aleph embodies it All.

Yesh Me Ayin, i.e creating something from nothing as the universe is always being created.
My personal opinion, which is just that, only an opinion from my understanding as I see it:
What is the Yesh? the thought
The Ayin - the emptiness between the thought
Healing happens in that emptiness
To Quiet the mind and reach that place brings One Healing
All my blessings in whatever form brings the greatest Peace, Healing and Measure

Why I Serve: The True Joy In Life

Naphtali Ziff JP
"Peace in the World"
Music and Vocals by Michelle Kaye with surround vocals by Divincemoore - lyrics by Joel Pirchesky, founder of One World Blue Media
This is the True joy in Life.
The Being used for a Purpose
Recognized by yourself as a mighty one.
The being a force of nature
instead of a feverish, selfish
little clod of ailments and grievances
complaining that the world will not
devote itself to making you happy.
I am of the opinion that my life
belongs to the whole community,
and as long as I live,
it is my privilege to do for it
whatever I can.
I want to be thoroughly
used up when I die,
for the harder I work the more I live.
I rejoice in life for its own sake.
Life is no brief candle to me.
It is a sort of splendid torch
which I've got a hold of
for the moment
and I want to make it burn
as brightly as possible before
handing it on to future generations.

A Tribute to Sholom

Naphtali Ziff JP
To my friend Sholom,
Who has meant more to me and inspired me than he or anyone will ever know....
From Sholom's original writings:
The New World
We have the here & now, which is the essence;
the past & the future too.
Until now, we have been in exile - gulus, after
the redemption, or the judgement, we will have
- gaula, or the new world.
A world of peace, where the righteous will prosper
& the wicked will glare for all to see, in their iniquity.
Miracles, the third temple & the resurrection of the
dead, are all elements of this glorious change.
More G-dliness, can be seen now as we approach
this metamorphosis; albeit it's tumultuous, so as it
is with all great change.
Now is the time for tomorrow, the new reality -
" For we will have been as dreamers "...

This link is to the first site that was created in 2006 with the co-founding of One World Blue.
It has thus now evolved into a worldwide community for good with the network of Blupela.com
The sentiments and teachings of this original site do not mean to be indicative of the corporation as it is today. You may see now however, where the beginnings of the movement began to create this dynamic network and future networks that the corporation will be building. We are doing so to help facilitate greater Global Communication and Understanding between each other for Common Good.
I choose to explain this now with this current spotlight I am posting today because of my wishes to honor my Friend Sholom, who has made a tremendous difference in my life over many years with his Hope, Patience, Wisdom and Inspirations. This post from Sholom's original work almost ten years ago, is not being posted by me to indicate any intention or belief of our corporation, but rather only being posted by me to honor my friend. The link will take you to our original site that was originally named One World Blue. This site you may see at the link above will be transformed into the network of ThePleasantWay.com in the future.
As you will understand, One World Blue Corporation has grown and transformed into many things and will continue as the corporation evolves and grows with the work of Social and Planetary Healing for Good.
The system of Blupela.com will be replicated and licensed to create similar networks that will unite with each other and also connect in the common network, Blupela.com, which represents the collective network for all people and cultures.
Future networks will include networks also specific to each of the major religions of the world and different cultures, so as to give each unique representative group their own space to connect and relate, while at the same time simultaneously post, discuss and cross-reference on the main network of Blupela.com.
The link above is to ThePleasantWay.com which is the network for Judaism.
The other future networks to be created and established in conjunction with the guidance of respective and honored community members and leaders from the particular religion or culture will include, but not limit to:

These opportunities will be to license our work and create other networks to interact and facilitate communication and internal harmony between people and groups with the tools that the corporation has created.
The Main Network of Blupela.com, The One World Blue Network, is becoming known as The Social Network for Social and Planetary Healing and Change. We are not trying to compete with Facebook or other media sites like Twitter. We have a specific niche and that niche is a place where people can come for good in the world and to effect positive change in our society and the Planet. It is also our goal with the five modules in the site to create greater unity in our world and help further the causes of peace where it can be achieved.
If you can imagine that networks like Facebook, Twitter, Reddit and Crowdfunding platforms such as Kickstarter converge in one place but for the purposes of and power of Good, that is Blupela.com.
It is important to note that we have both the interactive social network and a voting structure, we call Lift, which is built and fused within the main content of the site. This is something that in the area of Crowdfunding, our competitors do not have. Our network allows followers to Stand and Unite around causes and/or profiles. We also have plans to build two store sites to go along with the social network. One will showcase Fair Trade products with a multi-culture and world theme. The other will be about Green and Eco friendly products to help Mother Earth. Along this theme we will also have an online educational site about Green Consciousness and Education. The Link you may find on ThePleasantWay.com that will take you to the OneWorldBlueStore is to the store that operated from 2006 through 2009 when we sold various products to customers worldwide as well the One World Blue Portal Program which was a portal system we designed and operated under the concepts of Affiliate Marketing.
PLEASE NOTE: This store, although you may see it now with ThePleasantWay link, is not currently operational but has been preserved in its design until we release the future online stores and portal system to accompany our networks.
The main site is called Blupela.com, The One World Blue Good Network. It is for all people and all cultures and religions to use together and work toward creating a better world. Each of the faith based or culture networks, which will have a subtitle of “A One World Blue Network”, will have four of the five main modules that are part of Blupela.com.

Natural Chi Movement

Naphtali Ziff JP
Following up on my spotlight in which I introduced Tienko Ting, I would now like to share with you this spotlight on Natural Chi Movement, founded by Tienko.
I first met Tienko back in 1994 when he had his first course on Natural Chi Movement in the United States. I have practiced Natural Chi Movement now for many years.
Since I have known Tienko, I have worked with Teinko in private healing sessions, in which he has helped me to improve various health issues, and as a young and hard working entrepreneur I have been committed to having breakthroughs to live a life of vibrancy, diligence and complete holistic health, as we all naturally want :)
My sessions with him have proven to be very beneficial to the issues I consulted him about. Within the short time I have most recently worked with him I have also experienced significant results.
Given that I am the CEO for One World Blue, LLC and Blupela.com, I have an obligation to be clear that my personal recommendation for the work of Tienko Ting and Natural Chi Movement is a personal one and is not made on behalf of One World Blue, LLC. But I do want to say that I feel Tienko and Natural Chi Movement has been instrumental in my life's work in the many aspects and endeavors I have been involved, both professionally and personally, and I can wholeheartedly tell you that Tienko and his work is genuine and real, and that Natural Chi Movement has helped not only myself and family but also the many individuals and communities it has touched.
If you would like to watch and listen to a personal story from the mother of a child that Tienko has helped, please see that video at the bottom of this spotlight.
Many Blessings to you Tienko, the Natural Chi Movement Staff, and Natural Chi Movement Community. May we all experience health and prosperity in our life and work together to build a more healthy and peaceful world.
Sincerely,
Joel Pirchesky
Founder and CEO One World Blue, LLC
I now bring you this spotlight on Natural Chi Movement
About Natural Chi Movement
Natural Chi Movement is the daily practice of allowing the body to respond naturally and spontaneously to the flow of chi. It is a profound dance between our own life energy and the energy of nature itself.
“To transcend motion and stillness is the highest meditation… People who reach such understanding free themselves from all appearances without effort and cure all illnesses without treatment.”
–Bodhidharma, Grand Patriarch of Zen
Our Mission Statement
Mission Statement of the Natural Chi Foundation
Our mission is to create a future where each human being has the opportunity to live a peaceful, healthy life and experience a peaceful death.
What is Natural Chi Movement?
Natural Chi Movement is the simplest and most direct way to access the power of chi for health and rejuvenation on a daily basis.
Like all living things, we are each composed of physical and spiritual energy. One of the functions of chi is to maintain balance between those energies. Just as wireless technology serves as a bridge between people, chi serves as a bridge between the spiritual and the physical within and about us. In addition, chi is an activator of energy. It is how things move. It is what causes flow.
The nature of chi is to create balance, to restore, and to enliven. Once chi is activated and moving, it is on a direct, intentional course of healing. It is healing that is deep, exact, and precisely what your particular condition requires.
What distinguishes Natural Chi Movement from other practices is that it begins with a Natural Chi activation by Tienko Ting. Upon activation, your chi begins to move, which in turn causes you to move. From that point on, you have the ability to produce this spontaneous flow of chi whenever you practice Natural Chi Movement.
Natural Chi Movement returns people to their true nature—to rediscover themselves and the power of healing they already possess. It is very simple. There is no format. There is nothing to believe. There is nothing to learn or to master. To practice, all you need to do is relax and stop trying to understand long enough to discover what is already there.
Natural Chi Movement is a practice for a lifetime.
You may visit our site to learn about our Natural Chi Movement Activation Programs:
www.naturalchimovement.com
Frequently Asked Questions:
What Is Natural Chi Activation?
“Activation” is what Tienko calls the process by which he directs the flow of spiritual energy into others. He refers to Natural Chi activation as a nature-to-nature transmission. It is a revolutionary form of communication that produces an infusion of spiritual energy for each participant.
To be activated, you do not need to follow any specific procedures or techniques. No words are spoken.
Natural Chi activation is like a jump-start from Tienko that results in chi flowing freely and powerfully through your body, creating balance in a way that is both immediate and dramatic.
How Often Do I Need To Be Activated?
Once you are activated, you do not ever need assistance to be activated again. All you need to do is practice Natural Chi Movement.
How Do I Practice Natural Chi Movement?
After the initial activation, a daily activation routine is essential. This is what Tienko refers to as “practice.” He suggests a minimum of thirty minutes of practice daily to maintain and keep your energy balanced. For special healing with deeper issues, an hour of daily practice is recommended.
There are three keys to practicing Natural Chi Movement: calming your mind, relaxing your body, and allowing your body to move naturally. That is all you need to do or know to be successful in the activation and in your daily practice.
Calming your mind—essentially using no mind—allows you to respond to the changes in energy in your body that occur during the activation and whenever you practice Natural Chi Movement.
Chi has an intelligence of its own. It goes where it is needed in the body to create balance and restore health. Just as each of our conditions differs, chi moves each person in different ways. For some, it produces graceful movements similar to tai ji or chi gong. For others, the movements are spiral-like, similar to the movements of Sufis or dancers. Still others may move only slightly or not at all, but may experience internal sensations.
The purpose of most practices is to become more proficient. The purpose of practicing Natural Chi Movement is to become more natural. With consistent practice, you will begin to trust the intelligence of chi and gain confidence in its ability to move and to heal. It is a relationship with yourself that is, like nature, simply profound.
What Benefits Can I Expect from Natural Chi Movement?
The benefits of practicing Natural Chi Movement can manifest within a very short time, sometimes immediately. Regular practice can produce a wide range of significant results. Since chi goes where it is most needed in the body to correct imbalance and relieve pain, it is very useful for chronic problems that are not responding to other forms of treatment.
As chi moves, it releases tension and stagnant energy. The benefits of practicing can include
• Greater physical flexibility
• Stress reduction
• Improved sleep
• Relief of pain of all types
• Enhanced fertility
• Strengthened immunity
Natural Chi Movement will address any imbalance in the body. There are no contraindications. It will bring healing energy to any mental, emotional, or physical ailment, always focusing on whatever is causing the most serious imbalance at the moment.
Those who practice Natural Chi Movement daily report that it also improves mental clarity and intuition, enhances the senses, and naturally creates an attraction for healthier food and habits. Extended practice can lead to the development of special talents and abilities, along with a profound sense of peace and emotional and spiritual well-being.
Who Is Natural Chi Movement For?
Natural Chi Movement is for everyone. Individuals of any age and in any state of health can practice Natural Chi Movement. It is as appropriate for athletes—who may practice for increased energy, flexibility, and mental clarity—as it is for someone confined to a wheelchair or hospital bed.
Natural Chi Movement is a personalized movement program that supports exactly what each individual needs so as to create balance and physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
It is an ideal practice for those who do healing work of any sort. It increases your ability to transmit and use chi intuitively. Through daily practice and the continual strengthening and renewing of your chi, you can counteract the effects of imbalance and stress. Most practitioners report that Natural Chi Movement is their favorite practice, consistently providing them with freedom, natural expression, and effective healing energy.
Please visit our site to see what people say who have experienced Natural Chi Movement:
www.naturalchimovement.com
Please also watch this testimony of the work Tienko Ting, founder of Natural Chi Movement, has done for a young girl who was critically ill in the hospital and the family physician recommended to the family to work with Dr. Ting.

Tienko Ting

Naphtali Ziff JP
Following up with my spotlight on a Moment of Enlightenment, I said I would do a spotlight on Tienko Ting, who I had begun to introduce.
So I am happy and honored now to bring you this spotlight of one of my teachers who I have the utmost respect for. I met Tienko over twenty years ago. It has indeed been some journey over the past twenty years, but here we are and we are making our differences in the world each in our own ways.
I personally acknowledge Tienko's ability at Chi Activation and Healing. I would not be where I am today had I not met Tienko and our paths crossed at that most Provident time. I have experienced and worked with Natural Chi Movement now for many years. It has been a benefit in my life as well as in the life of my mother. She and I did the course at the same time. I also worked in health care for eight years and the chi work that I have practiced made an impact and still makes an impact in the lives I have also personally touched.
I will follow up shortly on another spotlight focused just on Natural Chi Movement. I first want to introduce the person who has started it.
With no further ado, I am happy and proud to bring you Tienko Ting:
Tienko Ting
In 1990, Tienko Ting began leading Natural Chi Movement workshops throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Born in Taiwan, he studied chi-enhancing techniques before discovering this ancient form of chi activation, which is believed to extend back to Bodhidharma, the renowned fifth-century Zen master.
Tienko is the author of Natural Chi Movement: Accessing the World of the Miraculous.
By training and occupation, Tienko is an aerospace engineer. For ten years, he was the head of the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Bridgeport. Tienko earned his undergraduate degree from Trinity College in Ireland, and a doctorate from the University of Michigan.

A Moment of Enlightenment

Naphtali Ziff JP
What can a Tree Teach Us?
I want to share with you an experience I had a little over twenty years ago when I was 21.
I was taking a course from a company called Landmark Education. They do transformational and self development work. They promise you to get out of the course what you are committed to getting when you take it. My request when I was completing what was called The Advanced Course was one thing:
Self Nullification
You see I was studying meditation for several years, since I first went to University of Wisconsin at Madison as a freshman. I had wandered into a bookstore on main street that year and found a book by Lawrence LeShan, called How to Meditate. My journey began.
I eventually studied a lot of Zen Meditation, read and read, but most important of all I practiced, A lot.
I was so interested in the concept and achievement of enlightenment and had a yearning beyond desire for it. In every moment of my free time, all I wanted to do was practice my meditation work.
Several years went by and I became more involved and advancing well. When I began taking the courses at Landmark, I brought this goal with me and that is when I was asked what do you want out of it, I simply answered one thing:
Self Nullification
You see I have learned one main thing in life in getting things accomplished. If you want to be a leader, one thing must happen. You cannot do what you want, but rather you must do what is needed to get what you set out to do accomplished and done.
If I point to a moment in my life where a shift began it was what happened with this experience I will tell you now:
It was the second day of the Advanced Course at Landmark and it was at the end of the day. It was very late, about midnight. I went back to my hosts house (I was in Cincinnati taking the course) and I went into the bedroom where I was staying. I just happened to notice the picture on the wall next to the bed. It was a beautiful picture of a tree.
At this moment I started to have several deep thoughts. I began to see that just as this tree, so are all of us, meaning we all go back to one source. I was able to see that we are all as individuals like a leaf on a tree, and more importantly we go back to one root, one source. Imagine you are a leaf and you look out beyond to the other side of the tree and you see another leaf. You say hello and how are you, but just by seeing this other leaf across the tree you are not able to see that you are part of the same tree and come from the very same root. With this I understood something very profound.
I also at that time had realized I was searching for enlightenment but until this time did not consider that I had been enlightened before, before this current path on Earth. Many people on this same search, at this point in our Creation, have actually reached this state as well, before they have entered into this life we all share in this point of our collective history.
After these thoughts and understandings, I was sitting on the edge of the bed and at that moment I saw a clear thin light in front of me. It was the only time I have ever seen this in my entire life and I have always wanted to see it again but I never have. It was a bright clear, thin, white light and it lasted only about maybe thirty seconds or less. I looked at it and did not know what to think and then it went away. I then went to sleep.
When I awoke, I had felt like I had shot down into my body. The strange thing then was that I had felt what seemed like electricity running through my body. I didn't know what it was and I had no idea what to say or tell anyone. I got up and took a shower. I looked outside and everything seemed brighter to me, more alive. This feeling of energy lasted with me for about six months. It was not until about two years later that I found out what that energy was. In the East, it is called Chi by some, Prana by others. The closest I can find it in my tradition is Nefesh Chiyuni, the life force of the soul. Christians may acknowledge and say of it that it is the Holy Spirit which runs through each of us.
I found out what this new state of being was because I met a man (in 1994) I want to introduce to you. His name is Tienko Ting and he is the founder of Natural Chi Movement. When I met Tienko, he had told me that he knew I had already activated my own chi before. He said in his course that not many people do that on their own and many around the world try long times to do so. Tienko has a method and gift of activating one's chi which then can be practiced and free flowing as Natural Chi Movement.
After I met Tienko and did his Natural Chi Movement Activation, my energy, that had been free flowing after my experience a couple years before and lasted about six months, began to flow again. And honestly since then it has never stopped. For the past twenty plus years I have every day of my life experienced this free flowing life force of the soul, through my body. I practiced very much, became more knowledgeable also in my own traditions of Judaism and went to Yeshiva Judaica School, came back and then went into the health care profession for eight years. This free flowing energy from our Creator which we all inherently possess (even trees and stones have it) and it is my hope that as a Global Society getting ever closer that we should all learn to connect with this (each in their own way and tradition) has been a blessing to me and many others. It is something within each of us and which anyone has the ability to connect and awaken. I do owe thanks and a debt of gratitude to Tienko for what he helped to restart and reactivate in me. Most of all, I owe gratitude, acknowledgment and praise to our Creator, of which whose Thanks is beyond measure, for awakening in me this spirit and life force that is always there and present every day of my life.
I will be making a spotlight soon dedicated to Tienko Ting and Natural Chi Movement and for now you can also see his site and be in touch with him here:

As I write this, we are about to go into the Yom Kippur Holiday, the day of forgiveness. If we truly realize we are all one, we come from one source and return to one source, and separateness is only an Illusion, the ego is only an Illusion, hence Self Nullification is liberation, we will come to forgive others easier because at the core root, we are actually one with each other. There really is no separateness. This idea of One World Blue was born out of my experience when I was young and searching for enlightenment only to find I had always had it. We all have it. It is within each of us.
The clear light that I saw I believe was the clarity and radiance of the natural mind in its natural state, after all of the ego has been cleared away. The Tibetans have a saying and chant, Om Mani Padme Hum, Hail to the Clear Light that Fills the Void. That Clear Light is our own inner light. It is our essence and being. It is within each of us and pervades all things. Let's have respect for that true light that we all carry. Let's have respect for each and every sentient being on this planet and all places. When we realize we are all truly connected we cannot live on our own. We can only live in a One World Blue.
God Bless You

I want to share with you my essay I wrote when I was 11 Years Old In Elementary School:

Dr. Bishop Reginald Kelly

Naphtali Ziff JP
It is with great honor that I bring you the spotlight of my teacher, advisor and friend, Dr. Bishop Reginald Kelly. Dr. Kelly was one of my closest advisors for nearly 20 years and has been a big inspiration and hope in how this network of One World Blue has come to pass. I hope you enjoy this spotlight and may it be an inspiration to you as well.
Dr. Bishop Reginald Kelly (November 26, 1952 - July 7, 2012)
Dr. Reginald Kelly was an inspiration, teacher, advisor, leader, visionary, and advocate for myriads of individuals who walked through his doors. His organization The Open Door program serviced the needs of the homeless and less fortunate throughout Greensboro, NC and region. He was an advocate for many who needed assistance and he was a leader, teacher, and consoler who gave guidance and advice to his community, family and friends.
Bishop Kelly was certainly the patriarch for his family as well as the countless followers he served. Bishop's words of inspiration and hope gave encouragement at the most needed times for all those who looked to him for advice. He served his community faithfully and selflessly and gave all of his strength to his community and greater regions both nationwide and worldwide.
Dr. Kelly was an active leader in the civil rights movement and contemporaries with Dr. Martin Luther King and many dignified leaders throughout these past decades of social change. The late Dr. Maya Angelou was also a mentor for Dr. Kelly and I personally had the honor to meet her on several occasions thru him.
Bishop believed in the work I was doing with One World Blue for many many years. He believed in our vision and not only encouraged me and advised me in my steps but was there at all times of hardship in my life to be a comforting and consoling force with a steadfast conviction and belief that we were on a righteous path that would one day lead to positive change in the world. He declared and knew that our Creator would always watch over our work and have it come to pass culminating in the birth and flourishment of the network that we now have.
Shortly before his passing, I had asked Bishop if he would be the Chairman of the Board and he agreed to accept it with honor. Unfortunately for us Bishop left us and went on to his eternal rest. He is missed very dearly but I know his spirit is still very much with not only me but our network. He has given his blessing and it will come to pass that all nations of the world will know what One World Blue is doing. And in fact, I declare that Bishop is still chairman of the board but in the place that matters most and brings the greatest impact to our world.
Blessings to Bishop's sister, Cynthia, his mother and family, Joe Brown and Christopher McLaughlin, and all those who Bishop counseled and served.
Dr. Kelly's accomplishments include:
Doctorate, United Christian College, Humane Letters In Education,Founder of The King's Corner Church Of Deliverance, The Open Door Program, Inc. Interpreted scriptures for braodway play, for renowned choreographer George Faison, NYC. Worked with Poet Maya Angelou, Oprah Winfrey, the late Yolanda King, Nick Ashford and Val Simpson

Theresa Winaught

Naphtali Ziff JP
I am spotlighting Terri Winaught because of the many years I have known her and she has been a member of One World Blue, I have been honored and uplifted by her presence in our organization. To me Terri, represents and signifies what we should aspire to and what One World Blue believes in: to be kind, compassionate and caring for all human beings and animals on our planet and to live a life of respect and diligence in serving others and our Creator. Terri is an inspiration to me and my family, especially my mother Iris and my wife Baila, and she is also an inspiration to our team for the hard work and diligence with which she carries herself through all of her life's commitments whether it be at BOLD, One World Blue, her church and choir or to her husband and family. Terri is the customer support director for our team and I chose her as such because I have experienced her work on the phone and email with her pleasant voice and clarity with which she expresses herself. Thank you Terri for believing in us and being a team member. We are so very honored and proud.
I would like to share with you an essay that Terri has written which testifies to her greatness in both intellect and compassion and will also show you why she is part of our shared vision for One World Blue. After this essay there is also a bio of her life:
THE COLOR OF LOVE
by Terri Winaught
"Mom, why does Charles speak with a southern accent?" I asked with a nine-year-old's curiosity.
"He's Negro, honey."
"Oh," okay."
Although I was beginning to learn about racial differences, I still had no idea of the extent to which they had torn the fabric of American society. It wasn't long, however, before I heard family members speak disparagingly about persons of color, and watched on TV marches in the South that broke my heart. Why did Montgomery Alabama Commissioner Eugene "Bull" Connor have to spray fire hoses on, and send attack dogs after, marchers who were assembled peacefully, as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution? Why were Black southerners and supporters beaten so badly on the Pettus Bridge while marching from Selma, Alabama to Montgomery, the capital, that March 7th, 1965 is sometimes called, "Bloody Sunday?" And isn't Judy Collins' lullaby to Medgar Evers' son, after his father's murder, a sad commentary on hatred: "Bye, bye, my baby, I'll rock you to sleep; sing you a sad song, it might make you weep. Your Daddy is dead, and he'll never come back; and the reason they killed him: because he was black." (Though this assassination occurred in 1964, it took 40 years for Byron de la Beckwith to be convicted and imprisoned for life.)
To say more about peaceful protests, when a white woman from Michigan, Viola Lieuzzo, dared to walk in solidarity with the Selma marchers, she was killed by the Ku Klux Klan on March 27th, 1965. (On the album "Treat me Right," Blues singer Robin Rogers sings a tribute to Lieuzzo entitled, "Color Blind Angel.)"
On a more personal note, my mother-who usually couldn't have been more loving and nurturing-threatened to have juvinile court declare me incorrigible for dating a black man. I was also the target of comments like, "If you could see, you would feel differently," and, "You always stick up for "the colored," so why don't you just go live with them?" Despite such insults, I believe in color blind angels. I believe that color blind angels can heal the wounds that conflict creates and reconcile willing spirits.
I also believe in Gandhi's philosophy that "while violence may be a temporary solution, the evil it does is permanent." I believe in a similar statement by Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. that, "what self-centered men have torn down, other-centered men will build up."
I'll conclude by comparing my beliefs to a tightly knitted afghan: I casted on stitches of curiosity; I knitted rows of tightly held beliefs; I pearled panels of opposite values; and I'm binding off with my belief that love comes in all colors.
A bio for Terri:
Theresa Mary Cwiklinski on March 13, 1953, life began with immeasurable uncertainty for this two-pound premature newborn.
When Theresa-who would come to prefer to be called Terri-turned three months old and was discharged from Frankfort Hospital, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by doctors who didn't expect her to survive, those physicians turned this frail baby over to her family with the words: "I wouldn't expect anything from this child but a life of disability and hardship: In fact, she's likely to be blind, crippled, and retarded."
Though a diagnosis of irreversible blindness was devastating for Terri's loving mother, Rose, Terri grew to be neither crippled nor retarded. In fact, she graduated third in her high school class in June, 1972 from the Overbrook School for the Blind and went on to graduate first with a Bachelor's degree in secondary education from Duquesne University and a Masters degree in education with an emphasis in counseling from that same university. (Terri also attended Chatham College (now Chatham University), after moving from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh, PA in 1972.)
Terri's multifaceted accomplishments include: winning the Jefferson Award for Community Service, serving on the Board of Western PA BOLD for seventeen years, serving as Fundraising Chair for nine of those years, and being the first blind person to graduate from the city of Pittsburgh's Citizen's Police Academy.
"I'm really excited about this business!" Terri exclaimed to One World Blue CEO Joel Pirchesky. "I love it," Terri continued "because I love fundraising so much that I could just fundraise my little hands off." Some additional fundraising capacities in which Terri has served are: conducting fundraising research for a friend during 2005 and 2006, reviewing fundraising proposals in 2008, and helping a major mental-health facility write a grant proposal for accessible computer software to benefit the blind- and vision-impaired. (The proposal just mentioned was recently accepted for complete funding by a major health-care foundation.)
In short, Terri Winaught, proud wife of fellow BOLD member Jim Winaught is a mother, stepmother, and grandmother who named her business--the proceeds from which will benefit Blind Outdoor Leisure Development (BOLD)--Buy for Good Now because nothing is more important to Terri than doing good for others and helping them "do good" for themselves.
Terri will be "doing good" for One World Blue and the nonprofit community by serving as Fundraising Chair of One World Blue and offering guidance and support to interested agencies and organizations.

Oneg Shemesh

Naphtali Ziff JP
I am happy to spotlight Oneg Shemesh! He is to me a very pure soul. He has a great heart. He prays with sincerity and he has a beautiful voice. What talent. He truly carries on the spirit of his Rebbe, Reb Shlomo Carlebach, who was also very dear to me. When I visited the moshav many years ago, I was blessed to pray there and to find that the gate of tefillah (prayer) at the Carlebach Moshav was one of Love. True and Pure Love. That was Reb Shlomo. I am happy to say that I find that spirit in Oneg. He has been taught well and carried on this tradition of Ahavas Yisrael and also Love of all of Hashem's creation.
You can find his music at http://www.onegshemesh.com/ and order online.
This one is a favorite of my wife Baila, and I, myself. I thank her so very much for teaching me so many things over these past six years. She has truly completed me and my purpose for existence.
Here is a bio for Oneg. Please enjoy the video at the end:
Having shared the stage with countless great Jewish music stars, among them hassidic reggae star Matisyahu, as well as Soul Farm, and Moshav band, Oneg produces music with an edge, combining contemporary musical concepts, styles and sounds with classic midrashic, kabbalistic and scriptural inspiration.
Among his musical mentors is the Father of modern Jewish music, the legendary Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, and those early days together were some good and very special spiritual and musical times.
In his own words: “I grew up in Israel on Moshav Mevo Modiim founded by the late Rebbe Shlomo Carlebach, Z"L. I had the great privilege of spending much of my time with the Rebbe, accompanying him on guitar and drawing from his wealth of knowledge. After finishing my army career and service, I joined The Moshav Band (as a founding member) and toured with them throughout Israel, the United States and Canada.”
He is presently living in New York, and does concert performances wherever Jews are found (or lost...). In addition, he leads Shabbatonim and Holiday Davening using, among other styles, the chazanut nusach of Reb Carlebach, bringing joy and happiness to communities around the world while trying (and succeeding!) to live up to his name ONEG which means utmost joy. Among his biggest admirers are his 3, beautiful children.
“My music is not just a melody with words, my music is prayer. Our sages teach us that singing the words is like praying twice; the first time for the words themselves, and the second time for the song. This is the highest form of prayer. I hope that my music finds you wherever you are and reminds you how beautiful is our Judaism, how beautiful is our tradition, and how beautiful is our love for Hashem.

Isaiah Bird

Naphtali Ziff JP
Two seconds. That’s all it took for Miguel Rodriguez, Long Beach Gladiators wrestling coach and a teaching assistant in the Long Beach Schools to know he had to work with Isaiah Bird.
“My boss asked me to meet with a new kid to the school, a child without legs,” Rodriguez said. “As soon as I met him, I knew right away that I wanted to work with him. He asked me to pick up him so we could play basketball. He was so friendly and outgoing. I knew he was special.”
Six-year old Bird has indeed done special things already. He may have wanted to shoot hoops with Rodriguez when they first interacted, but that’s no longer his activity of choice.
Rodriguez introduced him to wrestling through the Long Beach Gladiators over a year ago and he quickly embraced the sport.
“He pushed basketball to the side,” Rodriguez said. “It’s all about wrestling for him now - he got really into it. He liked it right away. He saw that not having legs could be an advantage – it’s hard for people to take you down. He also has amazing upper body strength. He walks on his hands so his hands are basically his legs. He practiced and practiced and practiced and he did very well in his first year. Actually, as soon as he wrestled his first match, we realized we could teach him and he would develop his own style.”
That style is heavily influenced by a wrestler who faced some of the same challenges as Bird while growing up in the sport on Long Island. Rohan Murphy lost his legs at birth, but went on to wrestle at Penn State before representing the United States internationally in powerlifting.
“When Isaiah started, we called Rohan and he came down,” said Long Beach High School head coach Ray Adams. “The first time Isaiah saw Rohan, the look on his face was amazing; it was like seeing himself in the future. It’s been nice to see that relationship develop.”
“Rohan Murphy is Isaiah’s idol,” Rodriguez added. “That’s his superhero. He accomplished so much without legs. Isaiah talks about how he needs to do well in math and all his subjects so he can go to college and wrestle like Rohan Murphy. We spoke to Rohan and his high school coach about what they did when he was learning to wrestle – how to teach Isaiah the right things to make him as successful as possible. Isaiah continues to get better. He’s been outstanding.”
Indeed, he has. According to Rodriguez, Bird placed third in the state and sixth at the War at the Shore Nationals, among other achievements. His medal count continues to climb.
“Isaiah loves his medals, but now he’s talking more about the big trophy he got taking sixth at Nationals,” Rodriguez said. “That was unexpected and amazing.”
Words like “amazing” are often used to describe Bird.
“It’s inspiring to watch him wrestle,” Adams said. “He goes out there and operates with what he has and makes no excuses about anything. It’s great to see someone overcoming the odds the way Isaiah does.”
“I think he shows that anything is possible,” Rodriguez added. “Here you have a child with no legs, who says he doesn’t need them. Everything we do, he tries the best he can. If he can do it, the others can do it. There are no excuses – that’s Isaiah’s line. That’s his motto. We’re very lucky to have him as part of Long Beach Gladiators and at the same time, he’s lucky to have the wrestling family and wrestling community. The community has shown that it will come together and help him when he’s in need."
Bird does face additional challenges off the mat. He is homeless – currently living in a shelter with his mother and younger brother.
After a story about him appeared on News 12 Long Island earlier this spring, some assistance arrived, including a wheelchair.

Your son,

Indian nationalist leader Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, more commonly known as Mahatma Gandhi, was born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Kathiawar, India. He studied law in London, England, but in 1893 went to South Africa, where he spent 20 years opposing discriminatory legislation against Indians. As a pioneer of Satyagraha, or resistance through mass non-violent civil disobedience, he became one of the major political and spiritual leaders of his time. Our Creator places people together in the right places and times to make things happen such that His will be done. We are only His chariots to do such as all leaders as yourself and Dr. Kelly, of blessed memory, fought so very hard on a daily level to seek out and carry out what needs to be done in being of service to a greater community and world. Dr. Angelou you have inspired so many and given each person who has come to know you through your works the strength and courage to fight and persevere to carry on in life each in their own path and way.
I am uplifted to fully begin more to understand, appreciate and be inspired by the wisdom our Creator bestowed upon you in life to know and understand things on a much deeper level.
I conclude by asking myself and sharing with our online audience the statement you made to me right here in Pittsburgh in the early 1990s after I met you following your appearance at Carnegie Music Hall. How was it and how did you know to say to me what you said to me then? I was only 19 years old at the time and still by no means achieved in personal self development, but nonetheless you looked right in my eyes then and said, "My dear child, G-d has such great things in store for you and He in turn expects great things of you". Thank you Auntie so very very much. Those words at that moment carried me for many years so very far and now I am pleased to bring you One World Blue. We love you and Bishop Kelly who brought me to you, very very much. Heavens Blessings upon you and may your special souls shine on forever.

Shaolin

The Shaolin Monastery is the most famous temple in China, renown for its kung fu fighting monks. With amazing feats of strength, flexibility, and pain-endurance, the Shaolin monks have created a world-wide reputation as the ultimate Buddhist warriors.
Yet Buddhism is generally considered to be a peaceful religion, with emphasis on principles such as non-violence, vegetarianism and even self-sacrifice to avoid harming others. How, then, did the monks of Shaolin Temple become fighters?
The history of Shaolin begins about 1500 years ago, when a stranger arrived in China from lands to the west...
Origin of the Shaolin Temple:
Legend says that c. 480 A.D. a wandering Buddhist teacher came to China from India. He was called Buddhabhadra, also known as Batuo or Fotuo in Chinese.
According to later Chan (or in Japanese, Zen) Buddhist tradition, Batuo taught that Buddhism could best be transmitted from master to student, rather than through the study of Buddhist texts
In 496, the Northern Wei Emperor Xiaowen gave Batuo funds to establish a monastery at holy Mt. Shaoshi in the Song mountain range, 30 miles from the imperial capital of Luoyang. This temple was named Shaolin (Shao from Mt. Shaoshi, lin meaning "grove").
Early Shaolin History:
Another Buddhist teacher was Bodhidharma, who came from either India or Persia. He famously refused to teach Huike, a Chinese disciple; Huike cut off his own arm to prove his sincerity, and became the Bodhidharma's first student.
The Bodhidharma also reportedly spent 9 years in silent meditation in a cave above Shaolin. One legend says that he fell asleep after seven years, and cut off his own eyelids so that it could not happen again. The eyelids turned into the first tea bushes when they hit the soil.
In 534, Luoyang and the Wei Dynasty fell. Temples in the area were destroyed, possibly including Shaolin.
Shaolin in the Sui and Early Tang Eras:
Around 600 A.D., Emperor Wendi of the new Sui Dynasty awarded Shaolin a 1,400-acre estate, plus the right to grind grain with a water mill. The emperor was a committed Buddhist himself, but most of his court supported Confucianism instead.
The Sui reunified China, but lasted only 37 years. Soon, the country once more dissolved into the fiefs of competing warlords.
Shaolin Temple's fortunes rose with the ascension of the Tang Dynasty in 618, formed by a rebel official from the Sui court. Shaolin monks famously fought for Li Shimin against the warlord Wang Shichong. Li would go on to be the second Tang emperor.
Shaolin Temple in the Tang Era:
Despite their assistance to the early Tang rulers, Shaolin and China's other Buddhist temples faced numerous purges.
In 622, Shaolin was shut down and the monks forcibly returned to lay life. Just two years later, the temple was allowed to reopen due to the military service its monks had rendered to the throne. In 625, Li Shimin returned 560 acres to the monastery's estate.
Relations with the emperors were uneasy throughout the 8th century, but Chan Buddhism blossomed across China.
In 728, the monks erected a stele engraved with stories of their military aid to the throne, as a reminder to future emperors.
The Tang to Ming Transition:
In 841, the Tang Emperor Wuzong feared the power of the Buddhists, so he razed almost all of the temples in his empire and had the monks defrocked or even killed. Wuzong idolized his ancestor Li Shimin, however, so he spared Shaolin.
In 907, the Tang Dynasty fell, and the chaotic 5 Dynasties and 10 Kingdom periods ensued. The Song family eventually prevailed, ruling until 1279.
Few records of Shaolin's fate during this period survive. We know that in 1125, a shrine was built to the Bodhidharma, 1/2 mile from Shaolin.
The Song was followed by the Mongol Yuan Dynasty, which ruled until 1368.
Shaolin's Golden Age:
As the Yuan Dynasty crumbled, Shaolin was destroyed once more during the 1351 Hongjin (Red Turban) rebellion. Legend states that a Bodhisattva, disguised as a kitchen worker, saved the temple; in fact it was burned to the ground.
Still, by the 1500s, the monks of Shaolin were famous for their staff-fighting skills. In 1511, 70 monks died fighting bandit armies. Between 1553 and 1555, the monks were mobilized to fight in at least four battles against Japanese pirates.
The next century saw the development of Shaolin's empty-hand fighting methods. However, the monks fought on the Ming side in the 1630s - and lost.
Shaolin in the Early Modern Era:
In 1641, rebel leader Li Zicheng destroyed the monastic army, sacked Shaolin and killed or drove away the monks. He went on to take Beijing in 1644, ending the Ming Dynasty, but was driven out in turn by the Manchus who founded the Qing Dynasty.
Shaolin Temple lay mostly deserted for decades. The last abbot, Yongyu, left without naming a successor in 1664.
Legend says that a group of Shaolin monks rescued the Kangxi Emperor from nomads in 1674. According to the story, envious officials then burned down the temple, killing most of the monks.
Gu Yanwu traveled to the remains of Shaolin in 1679 to record its history.
Shaolin in the Qing Era:
Shaolin slowly recovered from being sacked; in 1704, the Kangxi Emperor made a gift of his own calligraphy to signal the temple's return to imperial favor.
The monks had learned caution, however, and empty-hand fighting began to displace weapons training. It was best not to seem too threatening to the throne.
In 1735-6, the emperor Yongzheng and his son Qianlong decided to renovate Shaolin and cleanse its grounds of "fake monks" - martial artists who affected monks robes without being ordained.
The Qianlong Emperor even visited Shaolin in 1750, and wrote poetry about its beauty, but later banned monastic martial arts.
Shaolin in the Modern Era:
During the nineteenth century, the monks of Shaolin were accused of violating their monastic vows by eating meat, drinking alcohol and even hiring prostitutes. Many saw vegetarianism as impractical for warriors; this is probably why government officials sought to impose it upon Shaolin's fighting monks.
The temple's reputation received a serious blow during the Boxer Rebellion of 1900, when Shaolin monks were implicated (probably incorrectly) in teaching the Boxers martial arts.
In 1912, China's last imperial dynasty, the Qing, fell due to its weak position compared with intrusive European powers. The country fell into chaos again, which ended only with the victory of the Communists under Mao Zedong in 1949.
Meanwhile, in 1928, the warlord Shi Yousan burned down 90% of the Shaolin Temple. Much of it would not be rebuilt for 60 to 80 years.
Shaolin under Communist Rule:
At first, Mao's government did not bother with what was left of Shaolin.
However, in accordance with Marxist doctrine, the new government was officially atheist. In 1966, the Cultural Revolution broke out, and Buddhist temples were one of the Red Guards' primary targets. The few remaining Shaolin monks were flogged through the streets and then jailed; Shaolin's texts, paintings, and other treasures stolen or destroyed.
This might have finally been the end of Shaolin, if not for the 1982 film Shaolin Shi or "Shaolin Temple," featuring the debut of Jet Li (Li Lianjie). The movie was based very loosely on the story of the monks' aid to Li Shimin, and became a huge smash hit in China.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, tourism exploded at Shaolin, reaching more than 1 million people per year by the end of the 1990s. Shaolin's monks are now among the best known on Earth; they put on martial arts displays in world capitals, and literally thousands of films have been made about their exploits.
Batuo's Legacy
It's hard to imagine what the first abbot of Shaolin would think if he could see the temple now. He might be surprised and even dismayed by the amount of bloodshed in the temple's history.
However, to survive the tumult that has characterized so many periods of Chinese history, the monks of Shaolin had to learn the skills of warriors. Despite a number of attempts to erase the temple, it survives and even thrives today, there at the base of the Songshan Range.

Native Hawaii

Naphtali Ziff JP
Baila and I have a dream to travel to Hawaii and enjoy the beauty of the land and people. We keep it in our spirits and it motivates us. I thought doing a spotlight on Native Hawaii would be fitting. We just celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary. May it be for many more.
Enjoy the spotlight!
From Source:
https://ainaaloha.wordpress.com/who-are-native-hawaiians/
Marked by ingenuity and resourcefulness, the indigenous Hawaiian culture is internationally celebrated for its artistry and sophistication. While excelling in such arts as poetry, dance and sculpture, Hawaiians also established a well-developed judicial system and instituted complex scientific and agricultural methods.
But, who are Native Hawaiians?
Congress defines “Native Hawaiian” as “any individual who is a descendant of the aboriginal people who, prior to 1778, occupied and exercised sovereignty in the area that now constitutes the State of Hawai‘i.” (U.S. Public Law 103-150)
However, Native Hawaiians are so much more. We define ourselves by our relationships with each other, our ancestors and our land. Without these bonds of interconnectedness, we are incomplete.
Being Hawaiian involves nurturing and honoring these ties. In the Hawaiian society, one is expected to know and understand what it means to be a contributing member of the community. Everyone has a kuleana, responsibility, to use his or her talents to the benefit of the entire ‘ohana (literally, family). By fulfilling our duties to the ‘ohana and recognizing the accomplishments of others, Hawaiians increase their mana or spirituality.
Built upon the foundation of the ‘ohana, Hawaiian culture ensures the health of the community as a whole. The Western concept of “immediate family” is alien to indigenous Hawaiians. The Hawaiian ‘ohana encompasses not only those related by blood, but all who share a common sense of aloha (love and compassion). It is common to hear Native Hawaiians who are meeting for the first time ask “Who is your family?” and then joke we must be related “because we are all related.”
The ties that bind ‘ohana together cannot be broken, even by death. As loved ones pass, they continue to fulfill their obligations to the rest of the ‘ohana from the next realm. Hawaiians cherish their ancestors, committing to memory generation upon generation of lineage and composing beautiful chants heralding our ancestors’ abilities.
A lo‘i of kalo
The most important ancestor for all Hawaiians is the land itself. Legend names the first Hawaiian as the kalo (taro) plant. Therefore, as the Hawaiian progenitor, it is every Hawaiians obligation to care for their elder brother, the land.
The Creation
In the beginning, there was Papa (Earth mother) and Wākea (sky father). From these gods descended a still-born child, Hāloa (literally, long stem). Papa and Wākea buried their child, and watched as he changed and grew into the Hawaiian staff of life, kalo (the taro plant).
After Hāloa, another child was born, the first Hawaiian was born. Also named Hāloa in honor of his older brother, the first human to inhabit these islands was inextricably linked to the land that gave birth to him. As the younger siblings, Hawaiians understood their duty to care for their ‘āina, their land, so that it would in turn sustain them.
The Native Hawaiian people cherish their connection to the land. Our language is resonant with allusions to our heritage as kama‘āina, children of the land. The word for “family,” ‘ohana, literally translates as “from the kalo stem.” In acknowledging their interdependence with their ‘āina, Hawaiians created a unique culture, vibrant, sophisticated and efficient in its perceptiveness of the natural world.
